After a 20-day email voting process, 13 out of 19 valid votes were cast in support of Prof. Teresa J. Kennedy joining the 2nd AMEA Advisory Committee, making her the 11th member of the current committee.
 The overall voter turnout reached 68.42%, with a 100% approval rate.
 We sincerely thank all members for their participation and warmly welcome Prof. Kennedy to the AMEA Advisory Committee family, where she will contribute to AMEA’s continued growth and consultation efforts.
Teresa J. Kennedy, Ph.D. is a Professor of STEM Education, Oceanography, and Bilingual/ELL Education at the University of Texas at Tyler, with joint appointments in the College of Education and Psychology, College of Engineering, and College of Arts and Sciences.
Dr. Kennedy joined the University of Texas at Tyler in 2009. She teaches Oceanography and Meteorology, undergraduate pedagogy courses, and graduate-level school improvement courses. With nearly 40 years of experience in higher education, she has also taught in K–12 classrooms across Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Her certifications include Earth and Natural Science, Social Studies, Spanish, ESL, and Bilingual Education, with elementary certification in all subject areas. She has led science, social studies, and language programs in classrooms around the world.
Prof. Kennedy is also the Editor of “Ocean Literacy: The Foundation for the Success of the Ocean Decade.”
 Starting in 2026, Springer Nature will publish a three-volume series on ocean literacy, supported by UNESCO and other international organizations.
The series features 63 scholarly articles from around the world, including contributions from many AMEA partners. With a large portion of the content available as open access, this collection represents the most comprehensive academic consolidation of ocean literacy research in the past two decades.
