This event focuses on celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Asia Marine Educators Association (AMEA), reviewing achievements in promoting ocean literacy and marine education, and looking toward future development directions.

In response to the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development, the event brings together marine educators, scientists, and policymakers from around the world to promote cross-sector collaboration.

🌊 Itoigawa Marine Exploration Tour (Aug 6–9)
Itoigawa is Japan’s first UNESCO-recognized Global Geopark, featuring unique geological landscapes and rich marine culture.
Highlights include:
Visit the Itoigawa Geopark to learn about coastal ecosystems and geological evolution
Explore the Jade Coast of the Sea of Japan, experiencing both traditional and modern fishing culture
Engage in community dialogues on integrating marine sustainability with regional revitalization

Over 200 experts, educators, and youth from 20 countries gathered in Tokyo and Itoigawa for five days of exchange.
Day 1|Youth Forum (OPRI)
Opening speeches by:Tsuyoshi Sasaki (President, AMEA)、Mitsutaku Makino (President, OPRI)、Valentina Lovat (UNESCO)、Raphael Roman (ECOP)
Keynote: Yutaka Michida (Chair, UNESCO-IOC) on ocean literacy and development strategies
Reports by: PSP (Ocean Education Pioneer School Program ), JAMEEA (Japan Marine and Fisheries Education Association) – Ocean Town Project
Student poster presentations: from primary school to university level showcasing creative approaches to promoting ocean literacy
Afternoon: ECOP youth exchange
Evening: Tea gathering for youth and global marine educators
Day 2|Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology
Presentations by marine educators and scholars from various fields
Yasuyuki Kosaka (Superintendent of Education, Obama City) shares experiences in international marine education
Awarding of certificates to newly elected committee members, marking the start of a new era
Day 3–4|Itoigawa Exploration
Travel via Tokaido Shinkansen to Itoigawa
Visits to:Fossa Magna Museum、Mount Avatar’s permanent snow layer、Traditional temples and residences、Visit to Niigata Marine High School to learn about marine talent cultivation、Evening beach party and the release of the “Tokyo–Itoigawa Declaration”
